TOP ARTS EXHIBITION 2025

A huge congratulations to our Visual Arts Captain Mats P (Year 12) whose VCE Art Making and Exhibiting photographic artwork, ‘Architectural Forms’ has been selected for exhibition in Top Arts 2025, part of the prestigious VCE Season of Excellence!

The Top Arts Exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria showcases outstanding and thought-provoking works from students undertaking their VCE. This exhibition is a key part of the Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority’s annual VCE Season of Excellence, featuring a diverse range of media and topics from various schools.

This achievement highlights the exceptional creativity, innovation, and talent of Mentone Grammar’s Art Making and Exhibiting students during what has been an extraordinary year. Notably, Mats’ piece was also selected as the centrepiece for our 2024 Art, Design, Media & Technology Expo.

We had the pleasure of speaking with Mats about the inspiration behind his artwork:

“Architectural Forms is a bold and vibrant exploration of built design within Melbourne’s CBD. My artwork prioritises aesthetics over storytelling, employing formalism and minimalism to create visually pleasing and balanced compositions. By focusing on the visual weight of the subject and harmonising it with negative space, I manipulate the colour palette to achieve a playful yet structured equilibrium. The three-dimensional quality of the raised prints forms a visual bridge between the artwork and the architectural world, inviting viewers to explore the intersections of design, art, and space.”

Congratulations, Mats! We are proud of your remarkable achievement and look forward to seeing your continued success in the arts.
