Head of Bayview
Dan Newton is an enthusiastic educational leader with a passion for shaping the lives of young students. With a Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Movement) from RMIT, a Diploma of Education from ACU, and a Master of Educational Leadership from the University of Melbourne, Dan has a wealth of knowledge and experience.
Dan has held several leadership positions in prominent educational institutions in Melbourne, London and Shanghai. Early in his career, Dan honed his organisational and leadership skills as Head of Sport at St James College before moving to Shanghai, where he was a Head of House at the British International School (BISS). Upon returning to Melbourne, Dan fulfilled roles as E-learning and Experiential Learning co-ordinator, before becoming the Assistant Head of St Kevin’s Year 9 Campus. In 2016, Dan joined Melbourne Grammar School as the Deputy Head of Middle School and served in this role for 7 years.
In 2023, Dan commenced as Head of Bayview. With a passion for nurturing young minds, he always takes a relationship-centered approach to what he says is one of the most important developmental stages of a young person’s life. He thrives in leading a team to provide the most relevant, engaging holistic programs that spark curiosity in his students.
Dan’s love of the outdoors has also seen him live and work in Canada and North America in search of the perfect powder day. If he is not on a snowboard, you will often find him on a road or mountain bike, or trying to convince his family to do the same. When Dan is not in the classroom, you will find him participating alongside his students in their outdoor Learning Journeys in a quest to build strong, meaningful connections with each and every one of his students, inspiring them to reach their full potential.
