Julie James graduated from Deakin University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary)/ Bachelor of Applied Sports Science (Hons). She then undertook a graduate research role in Exercise Biochemistry, working at both Monash University and the Australian Institute of Sport, before her passion for educating young people saw her return to the school environment.
In 2006, Julie commenced as a full-time Physical Education and Mathematics teacher at Caulfield Grammar School, where she was appointed Head of Girls’ Sport at the Caulfield Campus in 2007. In 2012, Julie was honoured to be named the inaugural Head of Newton House (Middle School), in honour of retiring Principal, Mr. Stephen Newton. Julie held the roles of Head of House in both the Middle and Senior School, and in 2018 her pastoral skills and leadership were recognised when she was appointed as the Deputy Head of Senior School. In 2020, Julie’s passion for the wellbeing and education of Middle School students saw her move into the role as Deputy Head of Middle School, prior to her move to Mentone Grammar’s Greenways Campus in 2021.
Julie enjoys spending time with her family outside of school hours, and is passionate about developing connections that foster the development of young people through diverse educational opportunities, both inside and outside the classroom.
