Riviera celebrated their incredible fundraising efforts with an obstacle course full of colour explosions on Friday 1 September 2023!
As part of the Year 6 Global Changemakers program, our students have been raising funds for the fantastic Australian charity ‘SolarBuddy’, who are bringing light and hope to those experiencing energy poverty around the world. The impact of these solar lights is incredible. With just one solar light, which costs $32.50 per unit, students from impoverished communities can study 78% longer, thanks to safe and reliable lighting. This means better educational outcomes and brighter futures for those who need it most.
And guess what? With the additional help of our Year 5 students, Riviera smashed their fundraising goals! Thanks to their hard work and determination, we will be able to purchase 200 SolarBuddy lights for 2023.
Not only that, our students raised so much that we will be able to purchase an additional 200 lights in 2024 for the current Year 5 students. PLUS, Riviera will be making a $2,000 donation to SolarBuddy this year, and the same amount next year, all because of our incredible fundraising efforts!
But that’s not all. Our top fundraisers were rewarded with a slimy surprise – the chance to slime a teacher! Special shout out to Jade S (Year 5), Cameron T (Year 5), Diego F (Year 5) and Emma F (Year 6) who raised over $1,000 each, their slimy victory was well-deserved.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to Year 6 Teacher Pip Madden, who went above and beyond to create an unforgettable obstacle course using pool noodles. With the help of her family and Year 10 leaders, she made sure the inaugural Riviera Colour Fun Run was a one-of-a-kind experience for everyone.
We couldn’t be prouder of our Riviera students and their incredible fundraising efforts. Together, we are illuminating futures and making a real difference in the lives of others. Keep shining bright, Riviera!
