The Art of Communication
The popular debating and public speaking program offers students a wide range of opportunities to develop their oratory and research skills.
Debating and public speaking are powerful teaching tools because they cover a range of learning areas and outcomes that help to build social and emotional skills, critical thinking, communication, leadership, teamwork, and more.
At the heart of debating is a dedication to logical and critical thinking. Students need to undertake in-depth research and question the information and sources they find. They must explore different aspects and perspectives of a topic.
Creative and Persuasive
Debating is also about creativity – being able to come up with ideas to present a topic in interesting and effective ways, combined with the confidence and presentation skills to make a persuasive argument.
Our students compete in the Debating Association of Victoria (DAV) inter-school competition, Mooting and House Oratory competitions.
