A Golden Day on Clay – John Peers (Class of 2006)

He’s done it! John Peers (Class of 2006) and his doubles partner, Matt Ebden, have claimed GOLD in the men’s doubles event at Roland-Garros on 3 August 2024! 🥇

In one of the greatest comebacks in Olympic tennis history, the Aussie duo fought back after trailing by a set and a break of serve to defeat the USA doubles specialists Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram 6-7, 7-6, 10-8 in an epic match tiebreaker to secure victory.

This incredible win sees them join ‘The Woodies’ as the only Australian gold medallists in Olympic tennis history and adds to John’s legacy following his bronze medal in mixed doubles at Tokyo 2020. It also happens to be the first Olympic gold medal won by a Mentonian!
