Our girls lead the way in Touch Rugby

Congratulations to Year 11 student Laura and Year 9 girls Amitty, Ciara and Monique on their selections into the state representative teams for Touch Football Victoria.

Laura has been selected in the Touch Football Victoria Representative team for the National Youth Championships at Port Macquarie in September.

Amitty, Ciara and Monique, Year 9 students will be representing their state at the Under 15 National Tournament in Brisbane in October.

According to Heidi Gilmour, Head of Girls Sport at Mentone Grammar, Touch Rugby is a relatively new but growing sport which has been played at Mentone Grammar for 5 years. “The sport is getting more and more popular, with nearly 70 girls playing this season. We are looking at having some very strong intermediate and senior teams this coming (summer) season.”

“It’s great to see the girls being selected for the state representative teams.”

Mentone Grammar’s specialty coach is Hamish McLean, who is also Head Coach of the Touch Football Victoria team.
