Our VCE VET Interactive Digital Media students once again submitted works for the Youth Documentary Project (YDP), a section with the Bayside Film Festival. A total of six animation works were submitted and all six were screened at the Palace Cinema in Bay Street Brighton. Mentone Grammar was successful in obtaining two Achievement Awards at the Award screenings.
Congratulations go to Lachlan Ward, Oscar O'Neil-Pugh and Daniel Xiang for their production 'Cyber Bullying', and also to Adrian Zalega and Sean Leegel for their production 'New World'.
According to their teacher, Mr Peter Zerman, students developed their animations using Adobe Flash. "It was a substantial achievement, particularly given the complexities of not only animation but also coming to grips with the software application. Students commenced the task by producing a linear narrative and then story boarding, before initiating production. They acquired substantial skills for further work in this subject or other directions.
There were 48 entries for the YDP (from 150 students and 10 schools) and only 14 prizes awarded. "I commend the students on their efforts, the manner in which they represented the school and themselves, and their achievements," said Mr Zerman.
