Together-Apart-Together

The unique education model at Mentone Grammar really is the best of both worlds, providing both single sex and coeducation.

Students study together in all year levels (ELC-4 and 10-12), except for the middle years (5-9) where students learn apart.

Together-Apart-Together reflects modern thinking that boys and girls develop differently during the various stages of adolescence. The model has proven to be an outstanding success and is one of the key reasons parents choose Mentone Grammar for their child's learning journey.

Students in Years 5-9 gender based classes learn in the same environment; share the same teaching staff, programs and resources; interact in corridors between classes and have ample opportunity for social interaction at recess, lunch, assemblies and during House and cocurricular activities. Classrooms are set up and curriculum is delivered in a way to suit the gender.

The Together-Apart-Together model provides for both the academic and pastoral needs of children and adolescents.

Key Facts

Mentone Grammar is a dynamic school for boys and girls from age three to Year 12. We provide a flexible and sensitive approach which considers what boys and girls need at various stages of their development.

Classes are coeducational from ELC to Year 4, single-sex in most subjects for Years 5-9 and a combination of both for Years 10-12, determined by student interests and needs. We are small enough to know and care for each individual student and big enough to offer a wide range of academic subjects.

Each day, characterised by positive encouragement in a structured and nurturing environment, we seek to bring out the best in each individual. We focus on personal growth in partnership with our families. We aim to develop individual character, talent, academic excellence and responsible citizenship through teamwork. We have 17 hectares of sports fields at Keysborough and 3 hectares of alternative classroom setting at Shoreham on Westernport.

The vertically structured House system, from Years 5 - 12, delivers pastoral care in small group environments, in which mentoring to adulthood and the development of performance and well-being are our key focuses. We have a broad cocurricular offering. Whilst we are very proud of many nationally ranked performances each year by our students, we seek to ensure that each individual is provided with a vast diversity of sporting and cultural opportunities, independent of their current capabilities.

Whilst we are an Anglican School, committed to the quest for meaning in life as it is articulated in the teachings of the Bible, we welcome all who wish to join us, regardless of religious background or beliefs.
